Simon Peter wanted the readers of his letters to know how important it was for them to be filled with the right kind of knowledge; the kind that is transformative because of the Holy Spirit who provides a "super knowledge" related to Jesus and His identity and purpose. This message encourages believers to continually and actively renew their minds through God's Word so that this knowledge becomes expressed through our actions.
