Once the final deadline for mandatory electronic logging devices came and went on Dec. 18, 2019, you might have thought that was the end of the story. Everyone’s now on ELDs, fleets are compliant, everything’s good, right? But plenty of issues remain unresolved and plenty of questions remain unanswered.

In this episode of HDT Talks Trucking, Mike Ahart, VP of regulatory affairs at Omnitracs, says there are still a good number of things fleets have yet to get their heads around – including the diagnostic and malfunction provisions of the rule.

John Seidl, a former commercial vehicle enforcement official-turned transportation-consultant and VP of risk services at insurance provider Reliance Partners, says fleets still need to keep a very close eye on the performance of their ELDs because there's a lot that can still go wrong – and hours of service violations are not going away anytime soon.
