electrocaïne session #057 – Mutecell

Listen Later

Kevin O’Keeffe from electrocaïne podcast #007 is back to grace the decks as his other project name, Mutecell. With an evolved Techno sound, he returns to us with an elegant yet hard-hitting mix straight from the heart of Berlin.
When and where, how was this mix recorded?
This mix was recorded at the Natch Record studios in Berlin on 2 Turntables and Traktor Kontrol x1 without the sync.
How will you describe it to us?
I would describe it as one of the normal sets I would put on a podcast; easy for people to listen to and get used to harder stuff that comes in gradually in the set, which would be mainly my choice I play in clubs and elsewhere.
Can you tell us a bit about Mutecell?
Mutecell first started as (Mutecells) back in 2007 when I was working with a partner who then later split up. As I got to choose the name, I decided to dig it up from the grave after moving to Berlin in 2011 and started my Techno project. The name I used in the past was my original name, Kevin O’keeffe, and you can also find some other stuff under that name on Beatport.
How has your music style or taste evolved over the years?
Moving to Berlin has really changed and evolved a lot for me in the Techno scene I was focusing on since 2006. I think that it just doesn’t stop changing, but I really can say I love the way it has been going since the last year. I think that the producers are taking sound in itself more seriously!
Most interesting record you’ve heard?
i have a lot to mention but one of them would be ‘Drain Hum’ from Mike Parker released back in 1999. It’s just one of them that came to my head.

How are you involved with Natch Records?
Natch records are Synthek (Label manager), Audio Louis (A&R) and myself (A&R). We are a team working together and we all have our part to play in the label, so that we can build a solid concept in what we do.
Top 10 favorite labels?
For the time being, I would say my top 10 in no particular order are:

1. Stroboscopic Artefacts

2. CLR

3. Prologue

4. Ostgut Ton

5. Natch

6. Limited

7. Avian

8. Our Circula Sound

9. Blue Print

10. Mote Evolver

Favourite piece of gear?
My favourite piece of gear would be the Technics SL1210
Things looking forward to in 2013?
2013 has some interesting stuff coming up such as our label show case on the 30th April which will be held in...
