Who is an eligible dependent on your tax return? Many times people will sit there and they’ll talk about age and all that. And it comes down to, in my opinion, pretty straightforward, they may be a child dependent or relative dependents, basically, depending on age. But after that, who is taking care of them? If they’re earning more than $3,000 a year, they may not really be your dependents. But if you’ve got more than 50% of their income, if you’re having to take food, taking care of boards, cars, all these things, you may still qualify that person as a dependent of yours.
