Amidst the din of a crowded bar, a group of friends gathered around their usual table, and met for what would be the last time.
“I don’t know...” One of the gathered friends said and shrugged his shoulders as he nursed his brew. “Maybe...maybe I'm just stuck in the past...” At these words, he was met with a host of varying protests from his gathered friends. Impassioned though the exclamations were, they were routine, all who were present, had danced this dance before —often.
“No, no. I’m serious this time.” He continued and turned to each friend as he addressed them. “Look guys..” He said, “Cloud-rap Jimmy..” Cloud-rap Jimmy gave him a head nod in acknowledgement. “Reggae Charles..” Reggae Charles bobbed his head, dreads swaying. “90’s Hip-Hop Craig...” 90’s Hip-Hop Craig tapped a sideways fist to his chest and made the peace sign. “You guys have always been there for me, and we’ll always be boys. You know that.” He took a moment to himself, and sipped his drink reflecting upon all he had said and all he soon will. When he was ready he took a deep breath and continued. “But Indie-Folk Olivia is going to be turning one soon, and I'm not in her life! Who deserves a dad like that? Maybe it’s time to hang it up. Call Rebecca, let her know I was wrong, that...that maybe Vaporwave Dave really isn’t enough, maybe I should try being…” He took in a shaky breath. “Just Dave?”
