Ellen Reddy is the founder of the Nollie Jenkins Family Center located in Holmes County, Miss. They discussed the school to prison pipeline and the harmful impacts that it has on Black and brown children across the state. They also discussed the need for eliminating corporal punishment within Mississippi schools and instead using a more positive structure for discipline.
Ellen Reddy is a Baltimore, Md., native that has lived in Holmes County for over twenty years. In 2003, Ellen created the Mississippi Coalition for the Prevention of Schoolhouse to Jailhouse with the ACLU of Mississippi, the Mississippi Center for Justice and the Southern Poverty Law Center. She has most recently created the Mississippi Coalition to End Corporal Punishment in 2021 to eliminate corporal punishment in Mississippi.
