We begin with highlighting the idealists who are working against efforts to marginalize transgender people with an update on NE state legislator Michaela Cavanaugh and a story about MT state legislator, Zooey Zephyr, the state’s only trans person in the legislature, who spoke up against efforts to pass a gender affirming care ban. As a result, conservatives called for Zooey to be censured (and deliberately misgendered her in the process). She’s now the subject of a gag order by legislative leaders—she can’t speak on the floor until she apologizes. Huh? I also highlight a U.S. Navy admiral who exhibited incredibly allyship under pressure. The Big Interview is with Emma McClatchey and Paul Brennan of the Little Village online magazine to talk about “what the hell happened to Iowa” with its decided turn toward fascist conservativism.
