In this interview, I talk with Summer Minerva. Summer is an independent researcher, performer, author, filmmaker, community organizer, priestess and educator. Summer’s main purpose is to help awaken human consciousness to the sacred role of genders beyond the binary. She does this through film, performance, education, and ritual.
Summer is also the co-director and focus of an autobiographical documentary film called “The Summer Within” which features her journey to Southern Italy where she encounters an ancient transgender tradition.
We start this interview discussing the power of signs and how we can receive signs from passed loved ones or spirit and gain value from those signs. Next, we chat about drag as an access point to the divinity within each of us.
We then dive into Summer's very moving and provocative film, "The Summer Within." We explore it’s themes including the power of naming as a way to claim our true identity. We also discuss the healing and expansion possible in taking pilgrimages to our ancestral lands. Many more playful and profound topics arise in this delightful interview with my friend, Summer.
