Hayden Nevill is a former president of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fairbanks as well as a former president of the UUA Pacific Northwest District. He is the founder of Gender Pioneers, Fairbanks's transgender support and advocacy group. A career veterinarian, Nevill was a key advocate of a proposed ordinance to protect the Fairbanks LGBTQ population from discrimination – an initiative that was recently approved by the Fairbanks Assembly but then vetoed by the Fairbanks mayor. Today he’ll share the next steps in fighting those opposed to LGBTQ rights and what it means to be a committed Unitarian Universalist ally.

Unitarian Universalists have a strong history of advocating for LGBTQ civil rights. Marriage equality has been achieved, and despite recent events in Fairbanks, equal protections may not be far behind. Is that the end of the story, or is there more work for us to do to achieve a fully inclusive society?
