The Travel Channel ran a program called “101 Things You Should Do to Have a Full Life.” The show listed trips that would get your blood pumping – literally! When we’re excited, our nervous system tells our adrenal glands to secrete adrenaline into our bloodstreams, which causes our hearts to beat more rapidly, our blood pressure to rise, our breathing to accelerate, and more blood to flow to our brains and skin. We also get a big dose of endorphins, which produces feelings of ecstasy or pleasure. Some people come to crave these intense feelings, so they do all sorts of extreme things. Other people get enough endorphins from just riding a bike down a big hill.
Whether you crave excitement or are happy to just watch it on TV, God calls His followers to a life of adventure. That doesn’t mean He wants you to take up bungee jumping or parachuting. But it does mean He expects you to step out in obedient faith and share His Good News. Regardless of the risks, you and I need to see ourselves as deliverers of Good News. Peter says in Acts, “I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me — the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.” So, does that get your adrenaline pumping? Let’s be ready for this one great adventure God has called us to – that is reaching our world with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
