Everybody get ready, this episode is filled with so much insightful information about EMDR, working as an EMDR practitioner, relationships between therapist and client, and laying to rest misconceptions about what it means to be living with OSDD/DID.
Today I'm diving deep with Dr. Jamie Marich. Jamie travels internationally teaching on topics related to trauma, EMDR therapy, expressive arts, mindfulness, and yoga, while maintaining a private practice and online education operations. Marich is the founder of the Institute for Creative Mindfulness and the developer of the Dancing Mindfulness approach to expressive arts therapy.
We talk about the origin story of EMDR, and how it doesn't ease traumatic memories, but helps them shift how they are stored in the brain. You will hear us passionately speak about the following: how working with trauma is like working with lava and you need to be prepared. The safety and rapport that must be established between a client and a practitioner. The misconception that healing only occurs if there is a full integration of PARTs. We disabuse the notion that you can't talk to your PARTs, and how the meaning of dissociation is a different level of separation.
