EMIC is a program dedicated to conversations, explorations, and collaborations with experimental musicians performing, recording, and composing music in the Caucasus. Hosted by Ben Wheeler, the co-founder of Mountains of Tongues and a Tbilisi based musician and composer, each episode consists of updates regarding new album releases and upcoming events from the region, followed by an interview with an artist from the Caucasus in which they discuss their background, style, recording and composing process, influences, and a variety of other topics, and finally ending in with a spontaneous, improvised performance by the same musician within a framework suggested by the host. This final aspect in particular will be an engaging and exciting component that will result in a variety of new music made especially for the program. Overall, the show works to bring more attention to a growing community of diverse musicians and scenes around the Caucasus and showcase the talent and individuality of these performers.
