From his humble origins in Morelos in southern Mexico, Emiliano Zapata emerged as a powerful figure during the Mexican Revolution. Devoted to justice for the poor indigenous peasants of his home state, Zapata fought for economic reforms in the face of a deeply conservative landed elite.
