For our third episode of The Side Comment, we are joined by Emily Thomas, author of "The Meaning of Travel: Philosophers Abroad," who explores five fascinating pieces of advice from five of history's most well-known Western philosophers. René Descartes, Margaret Cavendish, John Locke, Mary Wollstonecraft, and Henry Thoreau all offer valuable insight gained from the inspiration they've found in nature and travel.
Emily Thomas is Associate Professor in Philosophy at Durham University. She has published extensively on the philosophy of space and time, as well as philosophical issues in travel. She has also spent a lot of time by herself getting lost around the world.
