Empathy in psychiatry and life

Listen Later

Keith joins Henry for the second episode of Season 2 to talk about empathy, psychiatry and interpersonal interactions.
They begin by discussing how their introduction to psychiatry in their pre-clinical medical studies has raised some alarming questions regarding consistency. How can you be a satisfactory doctor, friend or any listening ear right now, without burning out and thereby preventing you from offering equal attention and support for future patients or friends?
They then pose a challenge, to imagine being so deprived of attention that abusive attention was all you sought...
Although this episode is examined through the lens of the medical profession, it discusses ideas relevant to everyone. We all interact with others and further insight into our interpersonal skills can be nothing but helpful.
