Fort McKay Chief Jim Boucher says his community was pushed to embrace the oilpatch by the ill-advised anti-fur campaign in the early 1980s that destroyed their traditional self-sustaining fur trapping economy. Now, Fort McKay is one of the most prosperous First Nations communities in Canada, with zero unemployment and an average annual income of $120,000 per year.
