Whoever told us that following Jesus Christ would immunize us from deep pain in life did not tell us the truth. Many people stumble in their faith journey when our experiences make it undeniable that being a Christian does not prevent losses, pains, and suffering in this life. What the Gospel truth actually communicates is that we WILL have our own rock-bottom experiences…but that Jesus will be there with us when the moments occur. The story of the widow at Nain is a powerful reminder of both the depths of despair and the heights of restoration that find the believer during his/her journey. Jesus will encounter us when life hits rock-bottom. The question is whether or not we will welcome Him to join us there, or if we will wrongly believe that He has failed us.
