Encounters with Jesus - Jesus and the Royal official. Jesus heals the official’s dying son in an instant. Despite all the reasons not to (the official treats Jesus as some common miracle worker - he, like the rest of his people are refusing or unable to approach Jesus as he really is, the Son of God), Jesus' compassion for a distraught father and a suffering son compels him to. This is the love of God. And it is something we all need more of. They key to receiving more of it from Jesus, as well as all the other things he promises to give - is to treat him not on our terms, but on his. He is the worker of miracles, the teacher of the truth, and the bringer of the kingdom. But he is so much more. Ultimately our lives are richest when we approach him in all his richness - as the Son of the most high God, the saviour of the world.
