On this episode we discuss the domains of our life. What are those things in your life that make up who you are?
We briefly discuss Jeff Goins incredible book: The Art of Work. It's easily one of my top 5 books read. It frames how to get to your purpose. You can take a look at the book by clicking here.
You don't have to have a gazillion followers on social media and you don't have to be world famous or make a million dollars to be valuable and experience contentment.

My hope is that you can simplify your daily activities and how you interact with your day.
If you don’t care for yourself, who will?
Life can get overwhelming. I don’t think it needs to be. I focus each day on simplifying my space. I try to focus on 3 main areas that filter into my Roles and Responsibilities. Spirit, Mind and Body.
My R&R’s are Self, Son, Brother, Dad, Employee.

Our minds can get full of all kinds of worrisome thoughts throughout the day. I believe that through a regular practice of mindfullness you can create space in your mind around the things that trigger stress and anxiety, therefore creating calm.
I've been using Headspace (app) for several years and it has been tremendous. I can't recommend it enough. I've also heard wonderful things about the Calm app. It's also as easy as watching some YouTube videos on the subject and creating your own practice. Andy Puddicombe (co founder of Headspace did a great TedTalk on the subject. You can find it here)

“What possibilities does the current environment create?”--Michael Hyatt
We need to be vigilant AND we need to get some elevation and work at seeing the opportunities for our own spiritual, mental and physical well being.
With the right direction and a little bit of effort we can get some space between us and the highly charged emotional environment we find ourselves in.
Psalm 91:2-4

I Am statements are critically important to getting your head right after experiencing emotional pain.
These are about defining your Ethos or Character.
Ethos is greek for Character, but it also speaks to the culture, the guiding beliefs that characterize your community—that is YOU, where you are. If you have children, that means guiding beliefs that characterize your family.
Character is defined as the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Your distinctive nature.
I Am Statements define WHO you are, not WHAT you do.
Even Jesus had I Am statements. The book of John in the NT is full of them. Seven to be exact.
Taking some time to begin a rough list of what these might be for you and then practice speaking the list to yourself everyday.
The habit of reciting each day will also begin to reinforce boundaries with other people in your world. So if you’re having a bad day and you want to quit, you want to say or do something vindictive or mean or you start speaking badly to yourself, you’ll have your I Am statements as guideposts.
Take some time to begin yours!
Questions or to connect:
We often lose our identity in life, whether we're trying to meet parental expectations, growing through school and career, navigating raising kids or just trying to be successful in marriage.
We’re no one other than ourselves. We can only be ourselves. So who are you?
How do you get back to being You? Some tools that have helped me are:
Make a date with yourself this week. Ask yourself who are you becoming? If you stay on the path you’re on, where will it lead you? Is that where you want to go? Is that who you want to become?
And make a single commitment to yourself to take a step in the direction that you want to go.
