This Book explores the lives of the three Catholic Lords Baltimore in 17th-century England and their founding of the Maryland colony. It examines the complex interplay between their religious beliefs, their political maneuvering within a context of intense anti-Catholic sentiment and the establishment of religious freedom in Maryland. The narrative traces the family's efforts to reconcile national and religious loyalties, highlighting their experiences with the penal laws against Catholics and their ultimately successful quest for a charter granting them significant autonomy in the New World. The study analyzes the challenges they faced in establishing a colony where people of different faiths could coexist, and discusses how their religious policies evolved over time.
