Listen Later

Nowadays when we hear stories of first-generation minority students like you and me, they often focus on the negative aspects and the many roadblocks we have to overcome. Even when this is certainly an important part of our story, there are many more things that are also important to the full picture.

In today’s episode, I talked to Karina Ventura. She is a first-generation, Latinx woman who is currently a graduate student at Cal State San Bernardino. Karina and I explored the many skills and support systems that helped us get through our undergrad careers as first-gen students.

Main Points:

4.00  how to develop a support system

7.10 what is the value of being involved on campus?

9.53 Utilizing your strengths to deal with imposter syndrome

14.26 The importance of being intentional with your time

18.03  Roling with punches, learning how to be flexible with your goals, and not being scared to transition

24.31 The biggest advice Karina has for you in your undergraduate - enjoy the journey!
