BE STILL AND KNOW TO OVERFLOW | Mark 6:30–44
Pastor Robert delivers a powerful word about what happens when God asks us to stop moving, rest in Him, and trust Him with what we cannot control in the sermon titled “Be Still and Know to Overflow.”
In Mark 6, the disciples return from ministry tired and exhausted, and instead of immediately sending them into another assignment, Jesus tells them to come away with Him and rest. Before He uses their hands to feed thousands, He first teaches their hearts how to sit with Him.
This message reminds us that there is a difference between 1. Serving Jesus vs. Sitting with Jesus. We can become so focused on doing something for God that we forget God desires relationship with us. Sometimes rest is not a lack of faith—it is an act of faith because we are trusting God to keep working while we stop.
Pastor Robert also challenges us to recognize the difference between 2. A Move of You vs. A Move of God. The disciples could see the work waiting for them on the shore, but Jesus was still in the boat. Sometimes we cannot physically move out of a situation, but we can move our focus, our heart, and our eyes back to Jesus.
Then we come to the miracle of the five loaves and two fish. Jesus did not only bless the bread—He broke it. The miracle and multiplication came through the breaking. The bread was taken, blessed, broken, and then given. Pastor Robert also challenges us to recognize the difference between 3. Breaking the Blessing vs. The Blessing in the Breaking.
In the same way, there are seasons where God allows things to be broken off our lives so He can multiply what He wants to do through us. We want the blessing, but we do not always want the breaking. Yet sometimes the breaking is exactly where freedom, healing, restoration, testimony, and overflow begin.
- Maybe you are tired.
- Maybe you are exhausted.
- Maybe you are waiting for your next move.
- Maybe you are in a breaking season.
Jesus may be saying, “Sit down. Rest in Me. Put it in My hands.”
The bread was blessed, but it still had to be broken. And after everyone ate as much as they wanted, there were twelve baskets left over.
That is overflow.
Listen to this message and be encouraged to stop striving, rest in Jesus, surrender what you have, and trust that He is more than enough.
