In business school, one of the things that was stressed when analyzing a company was their core competency. That one thing that the company was able to do better than other companies, and gave them a competitive edge.
But what about core competencies for individuals?
Each of us has that one thing that we are better at that anyone. The thing that sets us apart and we are specialized in.
Focusing on a core competency is not as simple as continuing to develop your skills, but learning that you need to find ways to deflect tasks that take away from your ability to focus on your core competency.
And it's easy to find yourself trying to take on everything. As I would find out during my early days of entrepreneurship.
