Why are opportunities still being overlooked by investors?
I talk to Roxana Sanguinetti, founding partner of Alma Angels, about women, investment, bias and the opportunities investors may be missing.
We explore whether investing in women is simply about fairness, or whether it is also an innovation issue.
Roxana shares her thinking on the “double arbitrage”, why women-led businesses can be overlooked, and what this means for investors looking for the next big opportunities.

What if fear isn't the enemy?
In this episode, I speak with Dr. Alix Willemez about fear, resilience and adaptation. After surviving a plane crash at 19, Alix developed a very different perspective on fear- not simply as something to overcome, but something that can make us sharper. We explore what nature can teach us about resilience, why diversity and connections matter, and what this means for building organisations that can adapt.

Jane Marie Chen's work was recognised by President Obama and supported by Beyoncé. Her startup, Embrace, has now helped more than one million premature babies.
Embrace developed a radically low-cost infant warmer for places where traditional incubators aren't practical. It cost around 1% of a traditional incubator and could work without constant electricity.
Jane had always been a high achiever. She went to Harvard and Stanford, and built her career around achieving ambitious goals. But when Embrace ran out of money and nearly shut down, she found herself at rock bottom. Exhausted, burned out and feeling that she had failed herself, her investors, her family and the babies she had devoted years to helping.
What happens when failing at something makes you feel like you've failed as a person?
This is one of the questions I explored with Jane in my latest episode.

Most food startups spend years trying to get into one major supermarket. Riya Patel got into Tesco, Sainsbury's and Ocado in just 2.5 years.
Before the retail wins came fundraising, and as Riya explains, raising capital is a lot like dating. Some investors immediately understand your vision, while others push terms that don't align with what you're building. Having the confidence to walk away proved just as important as securing investment.
After graduating from Cambridge and heading towards a career in the diplomatic service, Riya took a leap of faith and founded All The Aunties, bringing authentic paneer cheese inspired by generations of family cooking to British consumers.
In Part 1 of this two-part series, we discuss fundraising, building the right cap table, branding, storytelling, and how Riya turned a family-inspired idea into one of the UK's fastest-growing food brands.

From founder to VC. I recently sat down with Sami Niemi, who built and exited his startup to Nokia and is now on the other side of the table as a partner at Spintop Ventures, a Swedish VC.
Sami started his company while at university and saw campus less as a classroom and more as a talent pool. He’d attend lectures, observe who asked the sharpest questions, and recruit them. A smart way to finding great people.
We talked about his journey as a founder, the lessons that shaped his success, and what he now looks for in companies. Sami once took a reference call with a founder’s mum, listen to the pod to hear why.
A delightfully insightful (and fun) conversation on building, backing, and spotting potential early.
