The construction of a $3 billion new oil refinery on the South Texas border near expanding SpaceX and under construction LNG facility, as well as new border wall being built and border buoys put in the Rio Grande are concerning environmentalists.
In this episode of Border Report Live, Jim Chapman of the nonprofit Save RGV tells South Texas correspondent Sandra Sanchez and host Rudy Mireles of the “hazards” that all of these projects pose to the Rio Grande Valley border environment.
Chapman worries that a launch-related explosion at SpaceX – which is located just four miles from the Port of Brownsville – could cause significant damage if it was to cause fire at the port with all of its new construction and chemicals.
A $15 billion LNG facility is being built at the port, the same port where President Donald Trump last week announced a new oil refinery also will be built on the border with Mexico in Brownsville, Texas.
