Landscape photographer Norman McCloskey on the Be Inspired Photography Podcast.
In this week’s episode, we chat to landscape photographer Norman McCloskey about the success of his photo book “PARKLIGHT”, what you can do to become a better photographer and the pure joy of being in the outdoors.
Norman McCloskey’s Bio:
I am a professional photographer based in Kenmare, Co. Kerry which is a very beautiful part of Ireland. My passion and speciality is landscape photography and I have been making images of the Kerry and West Cork landscape and beyond since 1992, primarily producing monochrome images but lately have been working on a growing body of colour work. My commercial work incorporates interiors and architectural, portraits and bespoke wedding photography.
I studied photography at IADT and after graduating in 1995, I worked as a freelancer and assistant before joining the sports photography agency Inpho Photography, where I have worked since 1997 combining a full-time role there and my own photography. In 2003 I swapped the bright lights of Dublin, for the dark night skies of Kerry, started a family, built a home, set up an office and love every day here.
My passion is landscape photography, and whilst the love of the landscape was always there, it and photography but now both combine to be an irresistible lure to leave my bed way too early and spend far too long out in the elements stress testing the limits of GoreTex and how far you can walk powered by NutriGrain bars.
The majority of my work is made on the Beara and Iveragh Peninsulas, partly because there on my doorstep, but mainly because I really feel a true connection to the landscape there and now know it intimately. My subject matter is the mountainous and bog covered inlands and our windswept Atlantic coastline, which can be considered to be slightly limiting but I’ve yet to tire of working in the highland and coastal areas nearby which have such a range of dramatic views thanks to our ever-changing weather and light.
