I love mermaids! One day as I was browsing instagram I came across a beautiful mermaid posted by effyourbeautystandards. I reposted the awesome mermaid and the artist, lizzie, responded by thanking me for reposting! After stalking her on Etsy, I saw that she made ugly Christmas sweaters and inspirational art. One of these pieces of art had an interesting quote from St Julian of Norwich "Our Savior is our True Mother in whom we are endlessly born and out of whom we never come." I had never heard of Christ referred to as our mother... so I had to find out more about lizzie, what was inspiring her art & more!
elizabeth (lizzie) mcmanus enjoys challenging cisheteropatriarchal linguistic norms by lower-casing her name. She is a proud graduate of Mount Holyoke College (Summa cum laude) where she earned a Bachelor's in religion with a concentration on gender and sexuality. She's lived all over the world and still is not quite sure what life looks like with a permanent address. Currently, she is wrapping up a Masters of Theological Studies at Duke, with a heart full of hope to be ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church.
In the meantime, though, she teaches painting classes, makes art, re-reads Harry Potter, and smothers her two cats and one spouse with a lot of love. You can find her at www.elizabethmcmanus.com, on twitter as lizziemcmizzie, and on Etsy in the DoodlesBylizzie shop!
