When it comes to recovery, there is arguably nothing more important than sleep. We'll go as far as to say that sleep is as important (if not MORE IMPORTANT) than a perfect diet.
The reason we feel so strongly about sleep is because when we don't sleep for an optimal amount of time, a multitude of negative things start happening in our bodies. Our hormone levels get thrown off, our bodies miss out on the most crucial time for its restorative processes, plus we just feel groggy and unmotivated.
