Ep 017: Dr. Hollen Meyer - "Victim of Circumstance vs Victor of Opportunity"
John 5:3-7
"Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?" "Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me."
John 5:7 – After Jesus asks if the man wants to be healed – his response is that he doesn't have help to get healed. He gives an excuse = victim of circumstance.
Jesus shatters that victim mentality.
A HUGE component to their victorious mentality was that they were focused on others, and not solely focused on themselves.
WAYS to go from VICTIM of CIRCUMSTANCE to VICTOR of OPPORTUNITY
- Address the benefits of being the victim:
- Actively Pursue a Change in Mindset – This is probably the most critical step.
- Stop Complaining and take Responsibility
- Forgiveness – although this can be the most difficult, it is necessary.
