Listen Later

The Spotlight Series on the Class of ‘92 continues with Aimee Youngers Pless as the guest for the hour. Aimee opens up publicly for the first time about an abortion she had approximately 20 years ago when she and her husband learned that their unborn child was diagnosed with Trisomy 18. Aimee also reveals what has been the biggest part of the healing process since then. A new segment titled “The Alphabet Game is introduced as well.

According to the CDC, Trisomy 18, also known as Edwards Syndrome, is a genetic disorder where a baby is born with three copies of chromosome 18 instead of the usual two, leading to significant physical abnormalities and often a shortened lifespan; most cases are not inherited and occur spontaneously during conception, with symptoms including a small head, clenched fists with overlapping fingers, low-set ears, heart defects, and feeding difficulties; the majority of babies with Trisomy 18 do not survive beyond their first year of life.
