The 1.3 trillion dollar beauty industry consistently tells girls to look thinner, older, sexier, tanner, fitter, healthier. Unilever conducted a 2 year global survey and reported that only 2% of ads show women as being intelligent, 3% in managerial positions and only 1% show women being funny. The rest show women as something to look at.
Angela is a professional brand storyteller with over 15 years of experience working in the marketing industry and is out to help teens navigate this world. To better understand what is real and what is not in the media and on social images. To see through the beauty industry coming after them. Because they’ll never win. To be kind to themselves, and others, about appearance.
In our conversation, Angela talks candidly about her own battles overcoming bulimia, Zambia and her origins as a writer and how a remote forest in Northern California inspired her Pretty Smart talk.
