At Something Private, we’ve always been about filling silence with conversation, and it’s been a privilege to do that for 2 seasons and counting. This season, we want to share our space with our allies, because the fight for equality is done through solidarity. But what does it mean to be an ally, and for that matter, a GOOD one? Raja, my 25-year-old cousin, schools me on this. Assigned female at birth, Raja knew from a young age that something about them felt wrong, and it took them almost two decades to finally find their footing in the world. Today, Raja identifies as queer, and on this episode, they share with me their journey, and we discuss the meaning and role of allyship, in a largely conservative Southeast Asian city-state.
