Now let’s dive into today’s content. This episode is about successfully navigating around holiday parties. There is a way to stick with the results that you have achieved this year and avoid the holiday weight gain. I have one tip for you that will help you overcome food fear, falling off the wagon and feeling like a failure after January 1st.
Don’t fall into the trap of “holiday season” because that sounds just like you are giving up. Always go back to your real driver behind sticking to a program or a workout routine. The season of the year doesn’t matter, because consistency is the key. Remember that your health and fitness is the foundation for your success in life. Your dedication to your lifestyle should not have a season.
When we walk into a party it’s really easy to become a social eater, to become distracted and shovel things into our mouth even if we are not hungry, because we have a social pressure or anxiety. I urge you to have a strategic approach to going to parties and knowing what to do when you are there. When you are driving to a party, have a plan in your head and focus on how much you want to eat and drink. That has to be a mindful, conscious decision.
Number One Tip for navigating around holiday parties – THE ONE PLATE RULE
You are at a party. There is food everywhere and it looks sooooo delicious. What to do now? Go and grab the biggest plate you see and stuff on it whatever you want to eat. BUT, put your proteins first and then your greens. After that, you can put things you want to try, like potato salad or stuffing. This will be your only plate that you are eating, so make sure you are trying everything you want.
I just LOVE this rule. I don’t want you to feel like you can’t eat certain food. With One Plate Rule we can still be mindful of our choices. I believe moderation is the key, and it’s the answer to yo-yo dieting cycle. We are humans, we always bonded over food, but we can be smart with our approach.
