We Do Recover With Jared Miller

EP 063 - A Strangers Love with Amber Bride

Listen Later

Amber Bride shares her story of being left by her parents at the age of 4, being left by her grandma at the age of 12, and was given to a family friend who was paid to take care of her. As Dr. Sellers stated, “I wanted to start using at the age of 4 in her story”(16:05). Amber’s addiction didn’t start until the age of 34 when Amber had major back pain. Her addiction took her to become homeless three times, being arrested around Christmas time, and being diagnosed with cancer. After Amber had her cancer removed, she ended up accidentally overdosing during a blizzard. Amber went to Annie’s House in Draper, UT where she learned how to cope with life’s difficulties and set boundaries. Amber got a job working right next to her treatment outpatient building. However, she was still homeless. Her boss turned an office into a residence for Amber where he stocked the fridge so she would have food to eat. This loving act gave her the feeling of self-worth. “It started the true belief of my worth” (42:27). “I just kept doing the next right thing” (47:09) is how Amber is able to stay strong in her recovery today.
