Ep #067: Your Doctor - Friend or Foe

Listen Later

Hello sisters and welcome back to the Sexyfit Podcast!

My fired up topic today came from one of our Sexyback Mastermind members. In the Sexyback program women and I go through a year long in-depth transformation to discover our health, create a positive mindset and empower ourselves for happier, healthier and sexier lifestyle.

Concerning health discovery, if clients have some issues with thyroid, sleep or mood swings, I make sure I give them the right tools to discover these issues by directing them to do some lab tests first. So I sent one client, let’s call her Jenny, to get guts sensitivity test done because we were suspecting SIBO that could cause bloating. I recommended her to see a naturopath at a health center which was in my opinion very good and progressive.

Jenny finally decided to take the appointment but it turned out to be very disappointing. The doctor instantly frowned upon the Sexyfit method, called me a body builder, told her she didn’t need to eat that much and asked why she was paying for the program. Jenny said she was paying for the support and education on the healthy lifestyle and explained the elements of the program, but the doctor just kept frowning. What Jenny noticed, though, was that the doctor’s behavior wasn’t focused on her at all. It was about the politics of the homeopathic doctors and the state, and she compared Jenny to herself, making her feel really uncomfortable and frustrated.

Allow me to quickly share something from my past. I went through a ton of stress in the first year of my business and I had a massive panic attack that completely paralyzed me. I went to the doctor’s and she told me I didn’t have a panic attack but a heart problem and tried to put me on heart medication. I knew it was not the right diagnosis so I requested another doctor. Another doctor came in and told me I was just having a panic attack, and that I should practice stress management techniques and sleep hygiene. He emphasized dealing with my stress by managing my behavior versus pumping me with medication. I was very grateful for the great advice I was given by this doctor.

So this my take on doctors, medicine and experiences like the one Jenny had.

When Jenny told me what happened, I picked up the phone immediately and called the center. I told them it was completely unacceptable that my client, a woman who finally overcame a block in her mind about her health and fitness, who wanted help and came for it, and whom I referred to their clinic because I trusted them, that she met a doctor who had such resistance and judgments towards her journey.

The morale of the story is that I stood up for my business, our clients and for what I believe in. The deeper morale of the story is that I applaud every one of you who takes the time to listen to this podcast, to exercise, to meal prep, and to know that no doctor, no expert, no guru has the right to judge you for the choices that you make with your body.

Any doctor who comes to the conclusion about what you are doing without asking you at least 5 to 7 questions and without having a burning desire in their eyes to  help you solve your problem is not the right physician for you. Whether it’s their ego standing in the way, their lack of experience as a doctor, or they want to make it about themselves, this person is not going to be the one that you trust with your health.

Know that they are there because they have a client, which is YOU. This is a service based industry. You lead the conversation, you ask the questions when you don’t understand, you are 100% in charge of your health, body and mind. If you don’t like the service, leave. You have the full right to request another doctor who actually gives a damn.

It’s not about money, it’s about you being in charge for your body and standing up for yourself. I urge you to put your health in the hands of a person who is truly going to believe that the transformation is possible for you.

If you have an experience like Jenny’s to share, I’d like to invite you to our Sexyfit group (www.sexyfit.com/group) and I’d like to hear from you because I’m sure we are not the only ones who have stories like this.

Have an amazing weekend sisters and talk soon!

With love,
Zlata
