Ep #075: 7 Steps to Beating Anxiety Forever

Hello and welcome back to the Sexyfit Podcast!

Today I want to talk about anxiety, which is an issue I’ve struggled with since I started my business. I want to talk about the steps to overcome it and become a productivity machine so you can feel like you are enough, you do enough and you have enough.

Through applying 7 strategies I’m about to reveal here, I’ve been anxiety free for 5 months now.

The whole thing started in the first 6 months of my business, during my first launch. I ended up in a hospital having a crazy panic attack. Then I kept experiencing it coming back in stronger waves. It was taking over how I was behaving and over my productivity. I was still managing and business went well but I didn’t live my life to the fullest. I loved going out, I loved my friends, my team and my business, but this one thing was keeping me away from being my best self and I no longer could deal with that.

So I set out to find a cure for it. I read books, I dove deep into exploring why we have anxiety, what causes it and what shift I need to make not to experience this feeling ever again.

I’ve come to the realization that it’s something I choose. We choose activities that lead to anxiety. We choose to be busy, or anxious, or make choices that lead us to being overweight. It lies within our daily habits and daily choices that we make, that lead to a certain outcome.

The following 7 steps proved to bring the result that I wanted, which was to be anxiety-free.     

  1. MAKE A DECISION
  2. I decided I was done with anxiety. I decided that I no longer wanted it to keep me away from enjoying my life to the fullest. On the New Year’s Day I set my goal to never use the word anxiety again.   

    1. DROP ALL THE STIMULANTS
    2. You need to drop all of stimulants that are influencing your system and causing jitter, restlessness or insulin spike. This goes for any kind of upper or something that says energy on it. Stimulants in the long run do not produce the results you want. Long-lasting energy comes from exercise and food and not from an orange package.  

      It’s been 5 months since I gave up coffee. I can even say that at this point I’m anti-coffee.

      1. KNOW WHAT YOUR TRIGGERS ARE
      2. I started being really aware of what was setting me off. For me it was taking certain meetings, working with certain clients, checking Instagram or even reading before bed, not working out 2 or 3 days in the row or staying awake beyond midnight.  

        I started to notice how the elevation of my cortisol in these situations was the same as on a highway where I escaped a car crash for inches and was properly freaked out.

        1. JOURNALING
        2. What you can measure you can improve.

          I noted and measured my workouts, sleep or interactions with people. I would put an X on days when I had anxiety and I noticed the patterns. On those days I either skipped my rituals, didn’t work out, had coffee or chose other actions that provoked anxiety.

          1. LIMIT SCREEN TIME
          2. Do you scroll through Facebook or Instagram and feel like you can’t stop doing it? Those of us with anxiety are especially prone to getting addicted to blue screen. If you grab your phone the minute you wake up, your brain starts reacting, comparing and analyzing and sets you off immediately.  

            You have to be conscious to pull yourself out of this third dimension we live in. Have specific times during the day for checking your phone and emails. Instead of looking at the screen, look around, there are so many more pleasant things you could do.

            1. SLEEP
            2. Screen time was ruining my sleep, so I got a separate alarm that wasn’t on my phone that I put on the other side of the room.

              Another cool thing is Sleep Cycle app which tracks your movement during the night. I discovered that I only slept 6 hours per night, but also that I was more rested when I slept 7 hours than 8.

              Sleeping is also closely connected to fat loss, because of hormones leptin and ghrelin that are produced during sleep and that influence fat loss.  

              1. SUPPLEMENTATION
              2. Appropriate amounts of macro and micronutrients help you manage anxiety. I started exploring how vitamin B influenced my mood, as well as magnesium and iron. It’s very important to know what micronutrients you might be lacking. We all need to take some sort of supplementation.  

                 

                This is month 5 that I haven’t experienced anxiety using these 7 steps, and I attribute that to knowing my limits, resting, fitting myself into my schedule and realizing that I don’t need to be a super woman all day every day.
