Dashan is unquestionably the most famous foreigner in China. In 1988 he appeared on the nation’s NYE gala TV show to an audience of 550 mln people. He leveraged the exposure to launch a career as a master in traditional Chinese comedy and is now reinventing himself as a leader in China’s brand-new stand-up comedy scene.
