It's unfortunate and devastating for anyone and everyone involved in the loss of a child, but as the father of son lost so young, my grief was very subtlety sidelined. Not just by others in my life, and in the abstract, but by me. I went into the situation of Journey's birth, knowing it would likely end in his death, with this idea that I would be able to hold everything together and move forward with grace and appreciation, and when it started to crumble, just a little, I completely fell apart. I was lost and gone and good with it. I said a big FUCK YOU to everything and everyone who claimed to know, and to those who told me to just move on. I ripped myself apart. And now, I am together again. Not a recreation. Something new. Like the Phoenix, I have risen out of the ashes to burn away the tears that nearly drowned me. You, your people, me, and others like us all have the warrior spirit! Where we fall, we will fight. When we're beaten, we will crawl. When we can, we rest. And then we rise again, to rise against.
