Why is the church often so suspicious or even dismissive of art and artists? How should christians think about creativity and how does it fit into our mission to make Jesus known in the culture today? This week’s conversation dives into a subject that is totally off the table for many people in the church today. Aleksey and I take some time to reflect on the role that art and creativity has had in our lives, the influences that have shaped us and point to some areas in the church we hope to see growth.
One of the major players that have helped shape my view of art and creativity is the stuff coming out of Humble Beast Records, especially the Canvas Conference on Creativity and Theology. Please do check them out! This group of guys has been working hard for the past 10 years to produce faithful art for the church. Art that challenges us. Art that cultivates us. Art that helps us take our skills and passions to the broken world in which we live in order to tell a better story.
