Dubbed the 'national cancer' in Australia (and New Zealand), at least 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer in their lifetime :-(
Sadly, despite a record high volume of accessible education surrounding the importance of safe sun practice, the application of skin protection products and regular skin checks, incidences continue to increase as does the impact on the health system. Whilst treatment avenues have improved over time, skin cancer is serious and life threatening and according to the available reports, data and published peer review articles, can largely be prevented.
This episode will explore the three most commonly diagnosed forms of skin cancer, symptoms to be aware of and the treatment avenues available. It will explore the evolving role of a beauty therapist, dermal therapist or dermal clinician in playing a far more active part in the early detection of what could be a life-threatening growth - after all, we will likely see our clients/patients much more frequently than their dermatologist.
As we fast approach the Australian and New Zealand high summer, the time for revisiting this important topic could not be more relevant - enjoy!
