In this episode, Jim Gould and Lauren Celano discuss many superpowers that graduate students and postdocs (and others) have. Both Jim and Lauren feel really strongly that graduate students and postdocs should recognize and lean into their superpowers since these make them really valuable and unique.

In additional to having superpowers from diversity of technical training, other superpowers include:

  • Comfort with ambiguity 

  • Curiosity

  • Expedited Learning curve/information processing

  • Open-minded skepticism

  • Ability to test hypothesis to get to go/no go decisions

  • Resourceful / Entrepreneurial   

  • Strong ability to see patterns

  • Resilient  / perseverance 

  • Scientific Method: classical method of questioning, observation, hypothesizing, experimentation, analysis, synthesis, and communication
