Deliver U.S.

Ep. 102: Suspicious by Default

Listen Later

The second episode of Deliver U.S. from dehumanization tells the story of a young Guatemalan boy who was detained for nothing more than standing outside a motel, talking on the phone with his mother. His case reflects a painful reality—how stereotyping, fear, and bias can lead to injustice and cause irreversible harm.

This episode examines our justice system and the ways personal biases can shape outcomes, even leading to the wrongful criminalization of a teenager with his entire life ahead of him. How does a 19-year-old recover from that kind of trauma? How many others never get the chance?

If you’ve been impacted by deportation, detention, or the constant fear of being seen as “other,” I want to hear from you. Your stories deserve space. Your voice deserves to be heard.
