Ep 103: Interview with David Hua, founder of Meadow

Listen Later

The legal marijuana market aka medical cannabis is a booming industry which is expected to surpass $6 billion in revenue this year, $20+ billion within the next few years, $40 billion within 5-10 years and some say this could even be a $100 billion market someday. Meadow is positioned nicely to take advantage of this fast growing market by providing software to the dispensaries as well as an online directory for consumers with a variety of products available for purchase.

Meadow is currently focused on just California which is a massive opportunity for obvious reasons. The company has raised $2.2 million from some very well known angel investors and VC funds including David Lee, Justin Kan, Hiten Shaw and Slow Ventures. The company also went through Y-Combinator in 2015.

In this interview I spoke with David about the origin of Meadow, going through Y-Combinator, how they attracted so many awesome investors, how they are positioning the company inside the cannabis industry, how the founders came together (spoiler alert: they're all Penn State grads), what types of regulations currently exist for operating companies like Meadow, why the banking industry is still way behind the regulators, how they are attracting new companies, what their revenue model looks like, their plans for hiring in the next year and much more.

Thanks for listening.
