Biographical dictionaries are pernicious ways the authors of said dictionary get you to read their roasts of people long dead who have no way of defending themselves. They’ll tear apart Philip Bailey (dead in 1902), but Rudyard Kipling they’ll leave alone because (at the time of that writing) he’s still alive!
