Lindsay Dare Shoop says that she's lucky she lacked confidence when she graduated high school. She was a star athlete in high school and played all the sports. But when she looked at the competition she'd face as a college athlete, she convinced herself that she'd never be good enough. But without sports, she struggled with motivation in college, and her grades suffered.

Then, one day, she ran into the rowing coach on the University of Virginia campus. He told her that her being tall and athletic and her past history in sports were a good foundation to be on the rowing team. She joined the team knowing nothing about rowing. But she improved quickly and soon caught the attention of coaches who took her on a path that led to an Olympic gold medal.
