As we continue our walk with Jesus on His journey back to Jerusalem, we come across a moment that feels all too familiar… the disciples arguing among themselves about who is the greatest.
In Gospel of Mark 9, Jesus uses this moment to turn their thinking upside down, saying, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”
Humility does not come naturally to us… yet it is essential to the Christian life.
Jesus goes even further, pointing to something unexpected: a child. In doing so, He reveals what a true servant’s heart looks like… not driven by status or recognition, but marked by humility, dependence, and genuine love for others.
Today, Jim Barnhart walks us through three practical lessons from this conversation just outside of Capernaum, helping us see what it really means to follow Christ… not by striving for greatness, but by embracing a life of humble service in today's message titled "Lessons for Disciples from Jesus' Hometown"

We are a Bible-Based, Jesus Only small community church located in rural South-East Minnesota. Our building was originally constructed in 1861 and is the oldest protestant church building in continuous use in our county.
Many people have come and gone throughout the generations, but our goal will always remain: To Serve Jesus only, and learn from His Living Word, the Scriptures.
Our small church body are all admittedly sinners, that openly strive to improve our walk daily, but also understand that we are Redeemed by the shed blood of Christ Jesus and declared innocent in God’s eyes due to Grace Alone!
There is no act of baptism, charity or observation of communion that deems us worthy. No amount of following the law of Moses, or the ever-popular observation of legalism in many churches today that will save us. That is us believing in ourselves, rather than what Christ did for us completely.
If you struggle with understanding the concept of salvation or are plagued by false teachings of following traditions rather than Christ alone, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We would love to help!
Please watch our archive of messages on a variety of topics. Please like and share our content with others that can benefit from what God has inspired our array of speakers to bring to the body.
Most importantly, be sure you are secure in your relationship with God and Christ Jesus. It is so simple. Do not wait. Tomorrow may be too late…
