Layla Rahmeh enjoyed her life, tremendously, until she had to escape it. She came from a loving family, was well educated, and after surviving cancer, no longer took everything life has to offer for granted. But then war broke out in her country, Syria, and being who she was made her a target for detention, torture, and death. So she chose to escape to save her life, and lost who she was in the process.
Find out what it’s like to not even be as much as a refugee, but a refugee claimant. Hear what it’s like to shut down your voice while your conscience is still alive, and how “feeling like [she] no longer wanted to exist” became a coping mechanism in the face of impossible odds. Discover the thread that kept Layla ‘s will to live stronger than the most unbearable pain.
