Episode Outline
Official beginning – 1:53
Testimony from Sandybell Suero (@sansueror) – 7:27
Story from The Open Door, p. 88 “Her Final Request” – 10:00
Interview with Keith Reid – 16:08
Highlights from Interview with Keith Reid pt. 1
Sam: What are some common myths about Literature Evangelism?
Keith:
1. Can’t make a living
2. Must be a salesman to be successful
3. It’s for those who can’t find a job
4. No one reads books anymore, everything is digital nowadays
5. The books are too expensive
Sam: Why do some canvassers fail?
Keith:
LE work is a calling! Not just anyone can jump into the work and be successful. When God calls you He equips you with talents to be successful.
Lack of faith and conversion
“No one can be a successful soul winner till he himself has settled the question of surrender to God…” CM 49.1
“The difficulty most to be dreaded is that the canvasser who meets these inquiring souls has not himself been converted; that he does not himself know by experience the love of Christ which passes knowledge. If he himself has not this knowledge, how can he tell others the precious old, old story?” CM 49.2
“The secret of success is the union of divine power with human effort.” CM 106
Sam: What hurdles did you have to overcome when you started canvassing?
Keith:
Give up company car, no vehicle
Not much extra cash
Navigate the bus system, use public transport
Mortgage and other bills
Very little training
Sam: How did you overcome these hurdles?
Keith:
Sam: What 3 things keep you going after nearly 37 years of Literature Evangelism?
Keith:
1. Quote from Life Sketches, “We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history.” LS 196.2
2. The calling God placed on my life and how he trained me.
“If I left this work, who would do it”
“We’re like Navy Seals, special, and not easily replaced.”
3. Spiritual growth: If I weren’t involved in LE work I would either probably be lost or would not have experienced this kind of spiritual growth.
Conclusion – 37:46
Nugget of the day
“He who called the fishermen of Galilee is still calling men to His service. And He is just as willing to manifest His power through us as through the first disciples. However imperfect and sinful we may be, the Lord holds out to us the offer of partnership with Himself, of apprenticeship to Christ. He invites us to come under the divine instruction, that, uniting with Christ, we may work the works of God.” DA 297.1
