On September 4th 2019, Trevor  Jones a Lecturer in Musical Theatre at Griffith University published a piece on theconversation.com asking the question “why are so many musicals adapted to movies?” It’s a fantastic read and really makes you think why you love certain musicals and why you hate certain ones. Perhaps you love Hairspray for the feelings of freedom, love and justice it delivers, or you feel empowered by the Cell block tango from Chicago. Maybe you’re a Disney nerd and you only watch the animated ones for nostalgia. Whatever your reason musicals have become a staple in cinema and continue to grow and capture our hearts each year. Join us today as we take a look at both cinematic and broadway musicals and discuss what we love, what we hate, and what we want to see.
