Today's poem is a section of a longer poem called "Ghetto" by Michael Longley. It has also appeared on its own under the title "Belongings".

Michael Longley is an Irish poet who was born in 1939.

He has published more than 30 collections in his lifetime, most recently collections of his poems based on the Classics of Homer and Ovid, and illustrated by his daughter Sarah Longley.
